5 Awesome Events to be held in Sydney in 2016

This is a little late but better late than never am I right?

Sydney’s calendar of events is renowned all over the world with a signature fireworks display to reign in the new year and a gamut of cultural events happening throughout.

Here are 5 of the best:

Sydney Chinese New Year Lunar Markets 4 February – 14 February


One of multiple celebrations and events happening in Sydney over Chinese New Year, the Lunar Markets will feature a range of food from some of Sydney’s finest including N2, Cuckoo Callay, Bao Stop and Black Star Pastry. Entry is free and it’d be lunar-cy if you were to miss out.

Australian Open of Surfing 27 February – 6 March


Surf’s up on Manly Beach, as the annual Australian Open of Surfing gets under way towards the end of February. You’ve got some of the world’s best surfers, skateboarders as well as some top tier musicians all present on the golden sands of Manly.

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbor 24 March – 24 April


If you’ve somehow avoided exploring the majestic Sydney Harbour, now’s a good as time as any with the Handa Opera set to bring its exotic Chinese fable to our shores. The Handa Opera will present Turandot: an exotic fantasy of a death-marked love told with the city skyline.

Vivid Sydney 22 May – 8 June


As Coldplay says: “the lights will guide you home.” For anyone lost, Vivid’s pretty much a lighthouse occupying the entire city.

Sydney shines during winter each year when Vivid Sydney warms up the city with a celebration of light, music and ideas. Watch as iconic attractions such as the MCA, Sydney Harbour, Opera House are illuminated with the brainchildren of some of the world’s finest creatives.

My Fair Lady 30 August – 25 September


Sydney’s on a hot streak when it comes to importing successful plays from overseas and the roll continues with Dame Julie Andrews’ My Fair Lady on it’s way in August.

The Cinderella story about the Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle and the appealingly arrogant phoneticist, Professor Higgins, is an endearing tale that charms audiences with its warmth and vivid characters.
